Important notice about Chess League

 

Dear School Chess Coordinator

 

Please take note of the following league dates(as on website& in general info doc sent to all school on 31 Jan):

15 April 2011: Round Robin Round 1

13 May 2011: Round Robin Round 2

20 May 2011: Round Robin Round 3

27 May 2011: Round Robin Round 4 

22 July 2011: Round Robin Round 5

29 & 30 July 2011  Round 6:          District play off's: the 2 top teams of each age group from each playing group will play off to determine The District Top Schools that will play at WP Top School Play Off.

8 & 9 August 2011 WP Top Schools: The Settlers High School, Bellville: the 2 top teams in each age group from each district will play off to determine the WP Top Schools that will play at the Western Cape Top School Play Off.

12 & 13 August(changed from 19 &20):  Western Cape Top Schools: Caledon: the 2 top teams in each age group from each region(WP, Boland, SWD) will play off to determine the WC Top Schools that will play at the National Top School Tournament.

2 - 4 October 2011 National top Schools: Bloemfontein: 2 teams in each age group from each province will qualify for Top Schools.

 

Round 1 - 4:

1.      Please note that the first 4 rounds of the league are finished by now.

2.      Schools must submit all outstanding results/ finish all outstanding matches before the end of this term.

3.      All results for  round 1 - 4 MUST BE submitted to HS and PS coordinators before 20 June or make arrangements.

The league events in the 3rd term are very close to each other and there will be no time to collect outstanding results.

 

Round 5 : 22/7/11

  1. Round 5 = all results must be submitted on Monday 25 July to HS and PS coordinators
  2. Schools that qualify for district play off will be notified by the district coordinators, on 27 July.

 

 

Round 6: District Play offs : 29 & 30 July 2011 

1.      The district coordinators(from the results from PS & HS coordinators) will determine the two top teams in each age group for each playing group.

2.      Top school =  highest number of wins as a team(eg 4 out of 5); total number of wins (eg 24 out of 30) will be used as tie breaker

3.      Some districts with only one group will send teams directly to WP play offs(will be notified by district coordinator)

  1. Schools that qualify for district play off will be notified by the district coordinators, on 27 July.

5.      The format of the playoff's will depend on number of teams. If 6 or less teams play a round robin of 5 or less rounds, max 5 rounds, rounds = 30.30(60 min). If more than 6 use Swiss to draw teams.

6.      Players must play in school uniform, no cost involve in round 6, no medals. Only to determine district representatives.

7.      Detail about WP Top Schools(8&9 Aug) as well as the western cape top schools in Caledon(12, 13 Aug) must be handed out to the top 2 teams in each age group in each district at the end of the district play offs. The top two district teams will need the info for WP play off, but since the Western Cape is so close, they must have the info although not all of them will qualify.

 

8 & 9 August 2011 WP Top Schools: The Settlers High School, Bellville and 12 & 13 August Western Cape Top Schools: Caledon

 detail will be hand out on 30 July.

 

2 - 4 October 2011 National top Schools: Bloemfontein: info will handed out on 20 Aug.
